My work isolates and highlights subtle visual elements - form, light, movement. The work holds attention on these qualities, resisting their disappearance into inattentive habit.

A blinking fluorescent tube, a rope curling as it falls, horizontal blinds catching light.

I begin with sustained attention to ordinary things that are usually overlooked. Through prolonged observation, familiar objects move out of the background and present their visual and physical qualities. By attentively looking, I feel part of my surroundings.

When I work, my decisions are guided by the visual character of the material—how it moves, how it changes form, how it catches light. If their character fades into the background, I know I interfered too much. I reduce my interference so these qualities can come forward again.
